The Oklahoma City Redhawks used timely hitting and solid pitching to build a seven-run lead before going on to defeat the Memphis Redbirds, 8-3, at AutoZone Park Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, the Redhawks (12-8) split their four-game series in Memphis and broke even on their eight-game road trip that began in Colorado Springs.

Each team got on the board in the first inning with a two-out, run-scoring hit. Domingo Santana gave the Redhawks an early lead with an RBI single, but Stephen Piscotty answered for Memphis (10-9) with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning.

The Redhawks didn't wait long to collect another big two-out hit, as Ronny Torreyes knocked an RBI single the second inning to give the lead back to Oklahoma City.

Leading off the top of the third, Jon Singleton sent a line drive into the Memphis bullpen in left-center field for his eighth home run of the season. Two batters later, Jonathan Meyer connected on his first dinger of the season, pushing the lead to 4-1.

The Redhawks added three more in the seventh. With runners at first and second, Kiké Hernandez smashed a doubled down the third base line to score two and make it 6-1. After a wild pitch put Hernandez at third base, Singleton brought him home with a sac fly, bringing Singleton's Minor League-leading RBI total up to 25.

A wild pitch by Memphis reliever Nick Greenwood allowed another run to score in the eighth inning, giving the RedHawks a seven-run lead.

The Redbirds cut into Oklahoma City's lead with two, two-out runs in the bottom of the eighth. Joey Butler hit an RBI double, and Piscotty plated Butler with an RBI single to make it 8-3.

That's as close as Memphis would get, as Rhiner Cruz struck out the side in the ninth inning to complete the victory. The Redbirds had not struck out prior to that inning.

The Redhawks finished the game with 10 hits. Robbie Grossman and Meyer had two each to lead the team. Grossman also drew three walks and reached base all five times he stepped up to the plate.

After picking up losses in each of his two previous outings, Redhawks pitcher David Martinez (3-2) turned in a solid start, allowing just one run and three hits over five innings to earn his third win. Although he did not record a strikeout, he walked just one.

Memphis starter Scott McGregor took his third loss in four starts. McGregor (0-3) allowed four runs and five hits over five innings, with three strikeouts and three walks.

The Redhawks wrapped up a stretch where they played 16 of 20 games on the road. In those 16 road contests, the Redhawks went an impressive 10-6.

The Redhawks return to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to begin an eight-game homestand Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Nashville Sounds.
