Sophomore Kelsey Stevens was just three outs away from her first no-hitter as a Sooner, but a one-hitter was still a fine consolation prize as No. 12 Oklahoma shut out North Texas, 3-0, on Wednesday night.

Stevens allowed just two baserunners during the entire contest, the first of which was a walk to Jordan Terry to lead off the second inning. From there, Stevens retired the next 15 batters she faced until Spencer Ferrell singled to left field on the first pitch of the seventh inning.

It was the seventh shutout of the season for Stevens and the 13th recorded by the Sooners. In fact, OU has now thrown three straight shutouts, tying for the longest such streak of the season. The Sooners also had three shutouts in a row from March 30 – April 4.

Stevens struck out six as she recorded her fourth complete-game, one-hitter on the season. She also accomplished the feat against Boise State on Feb. 20, Kansas on April 4 and at Baylor on April 12.

The Albuquerque, N.M., native has thrown one no-hitter in her career, a perfect game over Virginia on Feb. 23 of last season while playing at Stanford.

Both teams struggled to get the offense going as North Texas starter Madison Thompson held the Sooners off the board through four innings, but Oklahoma finally opened the scoring in the fifth.

Freshman Macey Hatfield led off the frame with a double over the head of left fielder Jackie Miller. Junior Jessica Vest came in as a pinch runner and was sacrificed over to third base by senior Javen Henson.

On the very next pitch, junior Georgia Casey crushed a long home run over the bleachers in left center. It was her ninth of the year and the 25th of her career.

The Sooners added an insurance run an inning later as senior Brittany Williams drove a 1-2 pitch over the bleachers in right center to lead off the sixth inning. It was No. 6 on the year for Williams and No. 31 in her Sooners career.

Oklahoma stays out of conference for its next series, hosting UAB for a three-game set this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader starts at 2 p.m., and both games are scheduled to air on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
