Volunteers Spruce Up Tulsa Community Pool Before Summer

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

Volunteers are spending their Saturday getting a south Tulsa community pool ready for the summer rush.

They spent the day draining the Park Plaza South pool and used a power washer to clean off the sides and bottom of the pool.

Volunteers also spent time painting the concession stand and cleaning up the flower beds and grass.

The Park Plaza South Pool has 260 families who are members who come from Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby and south Tulsa.

The pool was built in the late 60s, and many of the current members came here as children.

They say community pools are important because of the dwindling number of public pools and places like it offer a great opportunity for kids to have fun and meet new people.

"It's more than just a hole in the ground that people swim in, it's about friendships and family," board member James Deming said. "There are members of this pool that have been coming since they were a child and now they're bringing their own children."

This pool is scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend with a big party that Saturday night featuring the talented Grady Nichols.
