Oklahoma State recorded its fifth shutout of the season Wednesday night in a 3-0 victory over Wichita State at Eck Stadium.

In picking up their third-straight win, the ninth-ranked Cowboys improved to 32-13 on the season, which includes a 10-4 road mark.

Southpaws Tyler Nurdin and Garrett Williams combined for the shutout as Nurdin worked five innings to improve to 3-3, while Williams earned his second save with six strikeouts over the final four innings.

Tim Arakawa was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Aaron Cornell drove in the Cowboys' other run. Zach Fish collected a game-high three hits.

"It was really fun to watch a couple of guys that have been working extremely hard at their craft," OSU head coach Josh Holliday said of Nurdin and Williams. "With the wind blowing out to right field 20-to-30 miles per hour, the pitchers had to keep the ball down, and they did. Tyler did a great job, and Garrett was outstanding as well. And we had just enough offense.

"I'm just real proud of our kids. That's not an easy game to play coming off the Texas series where we put so much energy and emotion into it. We were a little flat coming off that long trip, but we just keep finding ways to win. That's the sign of a really good bunch of kids. They picked each other up and delivered."

It was Arakawa that delivered OSU's first runs, fueling a two-out rally in the fourth inning. With Fish and Cornell occupying first and second following singles earlier in the inning, Arakawa stepped to the plate and drilled a Kris Gardner pitch into the right-center field gap to give the Cowboys a 2-0 advantage.

WSU (22-23) threatened to answer in the bottom of the inning, but Nurdin got out of the jam. After issuing a walk to Micah Green and a double to Dayne Parker, Nurdin faced a second and third with one out situation. But he struck out the next two hitters looking to end the threat.

The Shockers managed just six hits in the contest, three off each OSU pitcher. Williams faced just three batters over the minimum and only got into real trouble once, that coming in the seventh when WSU had runners on first and third and one out. This time, Gage Green threw out Tanner Dearman trying to steal before Williams struck out Daniel Kihle to end the inning.

OSU added an insurance run in the ninth to help seal the win. Fish led off the inning with a double, and following a ground-rule double by Conor Costello, Cornell brought home Fish with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Cowboys return to action Friday when they open a three-game series against Arizona State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
