Many of those who lost their homes lived in the Terrell Estates area near Midwest Boulevard and Seward Road, the same area where a 56-year-old man is reported to have died after a wildfire ravaged his property.
One of those families was Bill and Anna Hester - who loaded up their car with the few dogs they could, and took shelter at the First Assembly of God in Guthrie on Sunday night.

When Bill and Anna Hester were finally allowed back here onto their property Monday morning, they found their home and everything they worked so hard for was gone. All of it leveled, and left in ashes.
"All our pictures, everything," said Bill Hester. "We don't have anything left, except what we got on our backs."
But Bill Hester says he's lucky to be alive. He was asleep when the fires started burning near his home and he says he got out just in the nick of time.
"I got one of her spinning wheels out, and I got some of my living history rifles out," said Hester. "But we didn't have any warning."
Bill says they did manage to gather up most of their dogs. But two didn't make it and two are still missing. But amidst all this destruction, they did manage to find their dog Buddy. Buddy, who is blind in one eye, survived the fire - unscathed.
"It's a miracle he was still here," said Anna Hester. "We love him."
But even with all this around them, the Hesters know how lucky they are. They're just glad they are ok, and will live to see another day. They know one of their neighbors died in the fire, and say all they can do for his family is pray.
The Hesters are still holding out hope that they find their two dogs. In fact, they've even laid out fresh food just in case- and plan to keep checking their property until they turn up.
