ORU Ends Road Trip With Win

Phillip Wilson had a career night on the mound for the Oral Roberts baseball team as the Golden Eagles completed their five-game road trip with a 5-2 victory over UALR at Dickey-Stephens Park in Little Rock, Ark.

ORU improved its winning streak to four straight games as the Golden Eagles moved to 27-22 overall this season, while the Trojans dropped to 21-17 with the loss.

Wilson (2-1) made the longest appearance of his career in the victory, as he went five innings and allowed just a one run on three hits. The junior struck out six Trojans in the start, a career high strikeout total. Jacob McDavid got the last three outs of the contest for his second save of the season.

Four Golden Eagles combined for eight of 11 hits in the game, including Emmanuel Forcier, Tyler Boss, Brandon Healy and Austen Colt, who each picked up two hits. Anthony Sequeira had a two-run single and a sacrifice fly for three RBI's.

Tanner Rockwell was the lone Trojan with multiple hits in the game with two singles.

The Golden Eagles put the first runs on the board in the top of fourth, the fifth straight time ORU has scored first in a game. Brandy drove in the first run of the evening with a single to right field to drive in Trevino and moved Boss to third, setting up a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Sequeira to make it a 2-0 game.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Trojans got a run back Drew Merten scored on a Golden Eagle throwing error to cut the lead to 2-1.

But in the top half of the sixth, the Golden Eagles added three runs for some insurance. With Boss and Brandy in scoring position, Sequeira added a two-run single to right center to clear the bases. Sequeira scored later in the inning on a single through the right side by Brandy Healy to extend the ORU lead to 5-1.

UALR added its final run in the in the bottom of the seventh as Sam Vogel drew a walk and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-2.

Colin Hightower and McDavid shut the Trojans down in the final 2.2 innings.

ORU returns home for the first time in more than a week on Friday as the Golden Eagles host Abilene Christian in the first of a three-game set at J.L. Johnson Stadium. First pitch of the Southland Conference showdown is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
