Dr. Jeffrey Dell Achieves Subspecialty Certification in Urogynecology to Better Serve Patients

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Jeffrey Dell, Director of the Institute for Female Pelvic Medicine, is one of two doctors in the Knoxville metro area to achieve board certification in the subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

"We are thrilled to offer this subspecialty and provide premier, cutting-edge care to patients dealing with a range of problems including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, pelvic organ prolapse, interstitial cystitis, hematuria and complications following pelvic surgery with mesh and/or sling procedures," said Dell, MD and Director of the Institute for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. "The importance of specialized training and care for our patients is the number one priority, and it is an honor to be nationally recognized and referred to as a Center of Excellence in this industry."

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education recognized female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery as a subspecialty nearly two years ago, as it is an increasing area that needs specialized training and care. The Institute for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery serves the community by setting the standard for excellence in healthcare for women with urogynecologic and pelvic floor problems.

The Institute for Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery provides a place for women to obtain the most advanced treatments for urinary incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain and pelvic disorders. Dell provides consultation and management for women with complex benign pelvic conditions or urinary tract disorders with pelvic floor dysfunction. Urogynecology offers comprehensive care for bladder and pelvic floor disorders tailored exclusively for female patients.

"Urogynecology is a subspecialty that has changed tremendously throughout the past decade," Dell said. "Currently, there are less than 700 doctors in the United States who have met the qualifications and passed the board examination process, and I am honored to be one of them."

Dell received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and did internship and residency training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Surgeons and member of multiple professional organizations including the American Urogynecologic Society. Additionally, Dell has published scholarly publications in Urology, The Journal of Pelvic Surgery, Journal of Urology and the International Urogynecology Journal.  He is among the first Board Certified Urogynecologists in the United States.
