Several More Chances of Showers/Storms.

Posted: Updated:

If you are like me, you are more than a little disappointed by how much rain has fallen so far today. However, notice the map on the right which shows the 24 hour totals across the state courtesy of the OK Mesonet. Some lucky folks received an inch or more, it just was not as widespread as hoped. At least so far, we have managed to dodge any severe weather from the system that went through earlier in the day. There is another chance of showers/storms this evening/tonight; primarily for the more northern counties though, and some of those may be severe with a wind/hail threat.

Although a few left-over showers/storms may still be around first thing Friday morning, the rest of the day should be dry. Saturday will also start off dry but another, stronger system will pose the risk of showers/storms, some likely severe for Saturday night into the morning hours of Sunday. That will be followed by another round of showers/storms Sunday night into Monday morning associated with a stronger cold front which will be arriving that morning. So, we have several more chances of rain as well as the potential for some severe weather and locally heavy rains with each of those systems. The second map on the right shows the 7 day QPF which still has us with at least the potential to pick up an inch or more of rainfall. I learned long ago to be careful what you wish for regarding OK weather, but sure do hope we get some decent rains out of these systems.

Notice the third map on the right which shows the potential for snowfall through this coming Sunday night. I mention that because the setup appears to favor a late season, significant winter weather event for the Rockies into portions of the adjacent Plains states in case you have any travel plans for this upcoming Mother's Day weekend.

Cloudy skies tonight along with southerly winds for much of the night should keep us in the 60s again tonight. A more northerly wind for much of the day Friday, cloudy skies through the afternoon hours followed by some afternoon sunshine should result in daytime highs in the upper 70s to near 80, much like today.

A return to gusty southerly winds and more sunshine will get us well into the 80s again Saturday, lower 80s then for Sunday and after the cold front arrives Monday morning, much cooler weather through the middle of next week. Our nights will be dropping into the 50s and possibly some upper 40s with daytime highs in the lower 70s; so quite a change from recent days.

At any rate, stay tuned and check back for updates.
