A Mustang High School student was arrested for making threats against other students on the last day of school.

The district says it was contacted about the threat on Monday afternoon. A 15-year-old student threatened to hurt himself and other students on the last day of school.

District officials called that student's parents and asked them to keep him at home while Mustang Police and district officials investigated. That threat was found to be credible.

The student was arrested at home on Wednesday. He's accused of planning to commit a violent act.

Mustang police say because the student is under age his name is not being released. He is being held in the county juvenile detention facility awaiting formal charges.

The last day of school for students here at Mustang High school is next Friday, May 23.

The following is a message posted by Mustang's Superintendent on the school district's web site:

"Dear Parents,

The safety of our students is our number one priority. We wanted to make you aware of a situation and its outcome at Mustang High School. School administrators were contacted on Monday at 3:40 p.m. regarding a student making threats. At the end of the last class period, the student said he was planning to harm other students and himself on the last day of school.

The student's parents were contacted. Administrators told them to keep the student at home while the matter was investigated. An administrator at MHS notified a campus resource officer about the threats and we have been working with the Mustang Police Department regarding the investigation.

The Mustang Police Department found the threat to be credible and arrested the student at his home today for allegedly planning or endeavoring to commit a violent act.

Although any situation where a student threatens harm against himself or others is alarming, I would like to offer my thanks to the students, staff and the Mustang Police Department. The process worked. The threats were taken seriously and action was taken. We are blessed in this district to have wonderful school resource officers and quality departments behind them.

If you or your child hears anything disturbing regarding any of our students or school sites, please report it. Although most threats have no validity, we take each one seriously. The safety and well being of our students and staff is the most important responsibility we honor each day.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sean McDaniel
Superintendent
