TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa's Police officers are getting a retroactive pay raise, after a contract dispute went to arbitration – and the City of Tulsa lost.

The decision will cost the city a half million dollars immediately – and $1 million a year going forward.

The Fraternal Order of Police and the City couldn't agree on a new contract – so the decision was made through binding arbitration.

The dispute was over whether police officers should get a one-time stipend, or permanent pay raises. The arbiter decided for the union.

Tulsa's Mayor, Dewey Bartlett, said he disagrees with the decision, and said it would cost the city the same as a new police academy would in the next budget.
