TULSA, Oklahoma -

Volunteers for the Tulsa Habitat for Humanity 2014 Super Blitz are in the process of building eight homes for eight families.

They will build all the homes in just 16 days.

Volunteers have been working in north Tulsa since early Friday morning, making progress. After a quick opening prayer, they got right to work.

"Its been exciting," TPD Sgt. Shellie Seibert said. "We already have the walls up; we did that within the first 30 minutes… everything's moving right along."

During the Super Blitz, more than 350 volunteers will be busy with the fast build.

Jane Dunbar, Habitat for Humanity Director of Development and Community Relations

"This is different because generally we will do a house build in about 12 weeks, and we build one or two days a week. But we're going to do this in 16 days straight," Habitat's Jane Dunbar said.

Seibert and the rest of the Tulsa Police Department's Burglary Unit decided to take a personal day off in order to give back to the Tulsa community.

"We believe everybody deserves safe and affordable housing and when you start rebuilding the community crime decreases," she said.

Once the project is complete, the families will be able to move into their new homes.

While this is volunteer labor, the new homeowners do have a mortgage they are responsible for paying. It's a 20-year zero interest loan they start paying once they move in.

That money will go directly back to Tulsa Habitat for Humanity so the group can keep helping other families with home ownership.
