TULSA, Oklahoma -

The Tulsa metro area experienced flooding issues as a downpour moved through the area Monday morning. The rain fell in a broad area early, and there may be scattered showers this afternoon.

Flooding was reported in several areas including southbound Highway 169 at 61st Street. Crews blocked the inside lane where there was standing water. Several cars were disabled after spinning out into the water.

Wesley Tolbert was one of those drivers. He says he's just happy to have made it in safely to work.

"As soon as I hit it, I started spinning to the side to where I could actually see the middle divider," he said. "I tried to correct by putting it in neutral and slowed down - and instantly started thinking of the cars behind me."

Tolbert was OK, and luckily, so was everyone else who ran into some heavy backup off Highway 169 after the area started to flood.

"You could see a lot of people pulled off to the side of the road or maybe they had hit too much water," said Deborah Gray.

This is the second time the same stretch of the highway has flooded in a week. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said the road is flooding because of a clogged storm drain.

Trash caused the clog last Monday. Crews were able to clear the drain in about nine hours, but ODOT said tree limbs, and even the remnants of a beaver's dam clogged it again.

The rainy start to the work week kicks off a soggy few days, according to WARN Team Meteorologist Alan Crone.

"This week will feature south winds, muggy conditions, and highs in the upper 80s and lower 90s," Crone said.

"The pattern will allow a frontal boundary to sag into the region Wednesday night and Thursday morning setting the stage for several days of thunderstorm chances. The severe weather season has been quiet to date, but we should see an increase in severe weather potential for the end of the week into the weekend."

Several wrecks were reported including the stalled cars on Highway 169 at 61st Street.
