Tulsa Pools Open For Summer; Lifeguards Still Needed

Posted: Updated:
TULSA, Oklahoma -

With Oklahoma's hot and muggy weather, people are heading to area pools.

But Tulsa still needs lifeguards and other employees to keep the pools up and running all summer long.

Whiteside Pool near 41st and Pittsburgh is one of five pools people can enjoy this summer.

McClure, Lacy, Reed, Whiteside and Berry pools are all open this year.

And to help with the summer season, the city is accepting applications for lifeguards, swim instructors and pool cashiers.

They have 32 people working at the pools right now, but they're hoping to get up to 45.

Employees can work up to 40 hours a week.

Beginning pay is $8.32 per hour for lifeguards and $10 per hour for swim instructors.

Those applying for lifeguard and instructor positions need to be lifeguard certified.

"It takes usually a couple weekends to get certified total because when they come they're certified not only as lifeguards but first aid and CPR for the professional rescuer also," pool manager Rhonda Freiner said.

Applicants for the lifeguard positions at a City of Tulsa-Tulsa Parks pool must be 16 years old  and certified through the YMCA or American Red Cross.

Anyone who is already certified may apply online by clicking here.
