TALALA, Oklahoma -

A washed out road didn't stop a congregation at the Cowboy Country Fellowship of Talala from celebrating Father's Day.

The Rogers County town got a little over 3 inches of rain in about an hour as church service started at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, according to member Chris Fryman.

Fryman and his family made it down the dirt road leading to church when "it just caved in and washed away," he said.

Resourceful church members took a backhoe that was parked on the property and dug out the rest of the road so the water could be drained faster. Others called the county emergency management department for help.

"The county came out and dumped asphalt in there, filled the hole up," he said.

That took a little while, however.

Church members who had four-wheel drive vehicles were able to leave through a back field while others were stuck until about 2:30 p.m., according to Fryman.

But it didn't stop the congregation from enjoying their Father's Day, he said. Those stranded at the Cowboy Church grilled out hamburgers.
