Residents Blast NW OKC Apartment Complex For Maintenance Issues

Holes in ceilings, mold and flooding -- those are just some of the complaints that are quickly mounting against a northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex.

Residents of The Highlands near NW 122^nd and Pennsylvania told News 9 things have gotten worse since new management took control of the complex several months ago. Internet reviews tell part of the story.

"When it rains, it leaks through and gets on the carpet," resident Brandon Teague told News 9.

Teague's ceiling has a large hole cut into it. He said water and mold issues from the hole are his latest concern at The Highlands. Teague said the mold is complicating his daughter's health issues. Dozens of residents told News 9 Wednesday they have similar complaints.

"Tile falling off of my bathroom, the A/C going out to leaking in my apartment," said resident Michael Hefner.

Hefner, Teague and others said new management at The Highlands is not fixing the problems. Property manager Amanda Giles told News 9 she has been working at the complex for several months.

"We're fixing [issues] as fast as we can right now," said Giles. "We are hiring."

Giles said every request gets a response, but multiple residents told News 9 she is not telling the truth. Residents who talked with news 9 are fearing retaliation -- Giles promises that won't happen. We'll be watching.
