When asked to create a mural that displayed an idea of downtown, one local organization took inspiration from a garden. Students from the Global Gardens Organization believe a good downtown and a good garden have a lot in common.

Natalie, Frankie, Macaila and Destiny were working on their mural along North Elgin between ONEOK Field and OSU Tulsa.

"It's a mural from Global Gardens, and we're painting it to show how Global Gardens is like the city," said ten-year-old Destiny.

Not surprising their concept of downtown resembles a garden, the Global Gardens program uses creating gardens as a way of transforming lives.

"We are hoping to create agents of change in our city," said Annie Ferris, Creative Director for Global Gardens.

She said the George Kaiser Family Foundation challenged organizations to create and paint murals of downtown. Four groups were chosen, murals by Phoenix Rising and the Tulsa Girls Art School are complete.

The Global Gardens mural and one more by Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences will complete the four.

This is what they are going for; see each of the buildings is like a plant. They said the city grows like a garden, if you take care of it, it continues to grow.

The girls said they hope to be finished by the weekend, but it might take longer.
