For the first time since what's been labeled the "botched execution" of Clayton Lockett, other states have executed inmates. Three executions across three states have been carried out in the last 24 hours.
Seven weeks have passed without any executions. Now Florida, Georgia and Missouri have killed inmates without ever knowing what really went wrong here in Oklahoma.
The bipartisan group in Washington, The Constitution Project, wants to stop what it calls the secrecy around the origin of the lethal injection drugs, stating the courts are unable to fully determine in advance if an execution will violate the 8th amendment; prohibiting cruel and unusual punishments.
Here in Oklahoma, Rep. Mike Christian has called for an interim study to be conducted prior to the 2015 legislative session. Christian is an advocate for the firing squad.
The Constitution Project wants justice in terms of a fair investigation by the Department of Public Safety.
Gov. Mary Fallin has told us she will wait till after the investigation stating, after any necessary improvements have been made, the state will continue to administer the death penalty to those convicted of heinous crimes.
