A City of Tulsa pool will participate with tens of thousands of swimmers around the world to help prevent childhood drowning and attempt to set a record for the largest swimming lesson ever.

Organizers of the World's Largest Swim Lesson will attempt to set a Guinness Book of World Records mark Friday for the largest swimming lesson ever conducted.

The current record -- established in 2013 -- is 32,450 participants hosted by 432 facilities in 13 countries.

Tulsa Parks will host a local event at the Reed Park swimming pool. Registration begins at 9:15 a.m. and the swimming lesson begins at 10 a.m.

The global event is designed to spread the message that drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury related death for young children.
