A northwest Oklahoma City apartment complex is kicking a family to the curb after they turned to News 9 for help.

On Wednesday, News 9 talked to residents complaining about maintenance issues at The Highlands Apartments near N.W. 122nd and Pennsylvania Avenue. The person who first called News 9 to criticize the complex says he and his family are facing retaliation from property management. In an audio recording obtained by News 9, the property manager is heard explaining her actions against the Teague family.

"Well I'm sure you were expecting this," said property manager Amanda Giles to the wife of resident Brandon Teague. "You've been in contact with [News 9]."

Brandon Teague, a father of two, says his leaking roof is producing mold and causing health problems for his young daughter. His wife, who has never talked to News 9 on camera, worked part-time at The Highlands until her husband called News 9.

"[Amanda] fired my wife because of me making the phone call and talking to you all," said Brandon.

Brandon says his wife recorded Giles in the complex's leasing office on Wednesday.

Giles: "With all of the changes that we are doing, all of the improvements that we are making … having the news crew involved ..."

Brandon's wife: "Like I said, that was my husband."

Giles: "Yes, and it is a reflection of you and your apartment … Unfortunately, we're going to let you go from our courtesy staff."

Following the recorded conversation, Brandon says a five-day notice to quit was posted on his door. The Highlands wants the family to leave the complex by Monday, according to pre-eviction papers.

Brandon and his wife have hired a lawyer. Late Friday, a lawyer representing The Highlands called News 9, but he said he was not comfortable going on camera until he investigated the accusations made against his client.
