TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tulsa Police arrested a wrong-way driver on I-44 after a 25-minute chase early Monday.

Police identified the driver as Lance Newsom, 46.

Officers got a 911 call about the driver in west Tulsa and spotted the car headed east in the westbound lanes near Lewis at about 2:30 a.m.

Speeds during the chase reached 40 m.p.h.

Officers got in front and back of the car in attempt to stop it.

"We were trying to get in front of him to make sure that we didn't have a collision, which fortunately no innocent party was involved in a collision," said Tulsa Police Sgt. Gary Otterstrom.

Police said Newsom narrowly missed a westbound semi at 129th East Avenue. They used stop sticks to flatten his tires and the car crashed into the cable barrier near 145th East Avenue.

Officers fired pepper balls to force Newsom out of his car.

Police booked him into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of Eluding, DUI and Resisting Arrest. Jail records show Lance Newsom was being held in lieu of a $6,500 bond with a court appearance set for June 30, 2014.
