An Oklahoma City man was arrested after police say he attempted to obtain a $20,000 cash prize with an altered lottery card.

According to police, on Thursday, June 19, 45-year-old Michael Allen Shaske attempted to claim the prize at a vendor, who recognized the card as altered.

The vendor referred Shaske to the Oklahoma City office, where Shaske reportedly completed a claim form and attempted to claim the prize using the altered card, police said.

An employee at the Oklahoma City office realized that the card had been altered. Police said a portion from another similar card had been cut and then placed into the altered card. It was secured by tape on the back of the card. The portion that had been transplanted had printed text on it that made it apparent that it had been altered.

Shaske told police he found the lottery card on the floor at a Wal-Mart, and that he didn't realized the card had been altered.

Shaske was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on one count of attempting to obtain money by false pretense.
