The town of Luther is turning to social media to help get funding for new equipment.

Last week on GoFundMe.com, the Luther Fire Department listed nearly $80,000 worth of equipment needs.

Last year, the town clerk was charged with embezzling tens of thousands of dollars. Fire Chief Jason Miller said the shortfall has made it more difficult to get needed equipment for his department.

“We understand as a volunteer fire department what our municipality is going through,” said Miller. “We are just going to try to get some necessary equipment without putting a lot of strain on the town.”

So far, no one has donated any money to the account. However, Luther resident Billie Sharp said Luther’s Fire Department is worthy.

“I trust them completely, and a lot of people will tell you they’re hard-working volunteers," said Sharp. "I mean they don’t do it for the money.”

Disgraced Town Clerk Donita Roby is scheduled to make her next appearance in Oklahoma County Court on July 14.
