Police say neighbors helped capture a man who tried to break into several vehicles in midtown Tulsa early Tuesday.

Officers said it happened near 12th and Urbana at about 1:15 a.m.

Several residents witnessed a man breaking into parked cars and confronted him, according to police. They said the man got on a small motorbike and attempted to run over one of the witnesses. The other witnesses knocked him off the bike and held him down for police.

Officers identified him as William Moss, 24. They say they found a handgun and several items he had stolen on him.

They arrested Moss and booked him into jail on complaints of Second Degree Burglary, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Controlled and Dangerous Substance.

Randy Winrow, who knocked Moss off the bike, said Moss originally told them he was in the area because he had lost his cell phone.

Jail records show Moss was being held in lieu of $54,000 bond with a court appearance set for July 21, 2014.
