Several downtown businesses in Harrah were damaged early Tuesday morning by two earthquakes. The 4.0 and 4.1 magnitude quakes struck early at 2:19 a.m. and 4:08 a.m.

At County Vapor in downtown Harrah, they spent most of the morning cleaning up the mess left behind by this morning's earthquake. The building is 100 years old and has survived a lot. But this morning's quake caused pieces of plaster to fall from the roof and a huge plate glass window in the front of the building to shatter.

Owner Carolyn Deal said glass was found as far as the center line in the middle of the street in front of her store.

“I’m glad I wasn’t here. I’m glad I was home,” said Deal.

Carolyn said she felt the earthquake there too.

“Sound asleep, the bed started shaking like we were going across railroad tracks and I’m telling my husband, ‘Get up earthquake, earthquake!’ because it was strong. We fell a lot and that was strong.”

The damage is similar up and down the street. At the Harrah police station surveillance video recorded the air conditioner register coming crashing down from the ceiling. A credenza also fell off a desk and there are cracks in their walls.

“It’s all minor damage, but damage from something we’re not used to,” said Harrah Police Chief Gary Morgan.

Nearby, most residents say they just had pictures and knick knacks fall off the walls of their homes.

“It felt like Wizard of Oz just swung by your house, picked it up, shook it a little and set it back down,” said Pamela Collins.

But Collins said the whole thing left her more emotionally shaken.

“I just know never to overestimate the man above, you know.”
