Reports: Thunder Declines Jersey Patch For Sonics' Title

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

According to multiple reports, the Oklahoma City Thunder will decide not to wear a jersey patch commemorating the Seattle Sonics' 1979 NBA title.

The NBA is instituting a new jersey modification that allows franchises to wear a small gold patch for every championship they've won.  The patches will be worn on the back of the jersey collars and were designed to celebrate the legacy of each franchise.

Questions have swirled recently as many have debated whether the Thunder should recognize a championship that wasn't won in Oklahoma City.  Some believed the patch should be worn because the '79 title it is part of the franchise's history, while others want Seattle's history to stay in Seattle.
