We know what trees and pollen can do to allergy sufferers. But did you know some people are allergic to beef?

Our own Jed Castles recently learned that he's allergic to beef, and we caught up with him to talk about the issue.

"I didn't think I had a problem with beef. I like steak, hamburger, so that was a big disappointment," Castles said.

Castles’ allergy test is proof he's allergic to beef, even though he said it was news to him.

A beef allergy is an adverse reaction by the body's immune system to beef. Beef allergies are rare, and severe symptoms are even more rare.

Here are some problems Castles may be having when he eats beef: Sinusitis, runny nose, and headache.

Fortunately, Castles knows he is not experiencing some of the more severe symptoms. They can range from tongue swelling to diarrhea, vomiting, even trouble breathing.
