Students at Oklahoma State now have another requirement to complete before they can enroll in classes.

The University just announced plans for mandatory online sexual violence training.

Every student must complete the 40-minute online training before they can enroll in spring classes. Spring class enrollment begins in October.

“I think this is a critical issue for students, for everyone,” Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Lee Bird, said.

Bird told News 9 the classes will allow students to better recognize sexual harassment, domestic violence and other sexual misconduct.

“I’m not 100 percent sure they haven’t gone overboard here,” Professor Lisa Mantini, who also takes classes at OSU and will have to complete the online training course, said.

“I’m a senior in college; you’d think I’d know this stuff, but I didn’t,” OSU student Ashley Ray, who already completed the training, said.

Last year, OSU said it would take a close look at its policies after a student pleaded guilty to sexual battery charges for an incident at a fraternity house.

The school says the online training is not a reaction to any incident on campus.

The University told News 9 it has offered this sort of training to students before, but this is the first time it has been mandatory.

The University of Oklahoma has a similar mandatory online course for its students.
