An Ohio woman whose fiance died two months ago after a freak accident is spreading the word locally about the importance of organ donation.

Alexis Bobbitt, 18, is in Oklahoma City with her grandparents for a few days before heading West. She plans to attend college in Los Angeles this fall.

Bobbitt’s longtime boyfriend, 19-year-old Luke LaPine, died on June 14 in Clinton, Ohio. LaPine was on a highway work crew when he fell out of the back of a moving truck and hit his head.

It was a freak accident.

Bobbitt says doctors used Luke’s organs and body tissue to help more than 70 other people after his death.

“You’re saving lives, and you’re helping other people when you go,” she said Friday.

Bobbitt says she and Luke planned to attend college in Los Angeles together. LaPine wanted to be a Los Angeles police officer.

She says the couple planned to stop into Oklahoma City to see the “Bombing Memorial” on their way to California.

Bobbitt says it was important for her to come here, even after his death, because it was important to him.

“I’m doing things we would be doing together,” she said.
