A local man is lucky to be alive after a high-speed accident late Wednesday afternoon on SW 44th St., near Council Rd.

Sources say Joe Schrader, who’s in his 30s, was driving east on 44th St., a semi was coming from the other direction when they hit.

“Jim” works nearby, and says he saw what happened prior to the crash.

“I seen two cars come barreling down the road at a high rate of speed,” he said.

Police say they don’t know yet whether or not the accident was a result of “street racing.”
