There is warning from the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority about a bogus email asking you to pay your Pike Pass bill. Turns out it's a way for scammers to get your bank information.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority has received several calls from customers who have also received the email, which reads, “You have not paid for driving on a toll road. This invoice is sent repeatedly. Please service our debt in the shortest possible time."

Some customers who got this email have never even driven on a turnpike with the E-Z Pass system. The OTA told News 9 it will never email you to pay your bill. To be sure, you can always call to pay your Pike Pass over the phone.

"The only time we will email something out to our customers is a monthly or quarterly statement or information that we have to give you like interoperability with north Texas starting on Monday. We will never ask for people's money through an email," said Jack Damrill with the OTA.

The OTA said several agencies have put out the same warning, and this is a phishing scam which has hit nationwide.

Another way to tell if this is a phishing scam is to see the email address it came from or if it's in your junk mail box. Those are red flags which tell you it’s someone trying to get your personal financial information.

OTA is even taking the extra step to collecting its customers email addresses so OTA can try to block these fraudulent emails from going to Pike Pass users.
