American Airlines Says Traffic Up, But Seats Filled Down

American Airlines Group said Friday its traffic rose slightly in July, but seats filled was down.

American reported a 1.1 percent increase in July 2014 versus July 2013. Total capacity was 24.4 billion available seat miles up 3.1 percent for the same period. Load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, was 85.1 percent, down 1.7 points from July 2013 to July 2014.

The July traffic and capacity figures come several weeks after American posted the largest quarterly profit in its history.
