Tulsa city councilor Phil Lakin on Friday braved the slippery conditions, grabbed his gear and rope and headed up the oil derrick next to the Golden Driller out at Expo Square.

Lakin is also the CEO of the Tulsa Community Foundation.

The foundation challenged Tulsa nonprofits to raise commitments through planned giving.

Today they announced the total amount of money raised through the challenge, $40 million.

"So we really stress at the community foundation the importance of donors setting aside money after their life is over," Phil Lakin Jr. Tulsa Community Foundation said.

The challenge was met with matching funds from a grant, those funds can be used now by the nonprofits.
