We are getting our first look at the new Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore.

On May 20, 2013, a tornado destroyed the previous school, and seven students lost their lives.

Having a proper memorial was extremely important to parents and staff at the school.

The memorial will be in the entry of the building and feature life-sized silhouettes of seven students. Each will have something associated with a student lost.

For example, Kyle Davis loved soccer, so one of the silhouettes will be a boy with a backpack carrying a soccer ball.

Those marble figures won't arrive until October. There will also be seven benches, and each has been customized for the seven students.

We are told the benches should arrive by the second week of September.

The school is state of the art and roughly the same size as the previous school.

“We've got all the bells and whistles you can think of,” Principal Patrick Chase said.

Everything about the $12 million school is new with one exception, the wall on the original school featuring the school's mascot, a panther, was salvaged.

The brick wall now stands in the entry of the new school and will be the first thing students see as they walk in for class.

“It's part of them,” Moore Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Romines said.

The goal is to have the school finished by Friday's open house.

Classes in Moore begin August 19.
