Friends Of Victim In Pizza Parlor Accident Raise Money To Help Family

Coworkers of a Duncan man killed in a freak accident at an Oklahoma City pizza parlor are helping with funeral costs.

A ceremony for 46-year-old Michael Ray Youngs was held Monday, but there are still bills to pay associated with his death.

The staff at Domino's located at 3445 W. Memorial in Oklahoma City are raising money to help cover the expenses.

"Can't believe he is gone, he had just left us 15 minutes before this happened," Denise Marshall, Youngs' supervisor at the Domino's restaurant, said.

Youngs was killed August 4 after he left work and went to chat with some friends at Pizza Planet on N.W. 16th and May.

Oklahoma City police said a 27-year-old woman crashed her van into the pizza restaurant as she reached for her cell phone.

Youngs died when a wall he was standing near collapsed on him.

"Michael was great," said Marshall. "He was a team player, always there for us, been there for us forever, so we wanted to be there for him, too."

Youngs worked at different area Domino's as a delivery driver for more than 20 years, so the Domino's Foundation paid for his cremation.

"Very expensive, I'm glad Domino's stepped up and paid for the funeral, but we've got a lot more expenses to go," Marshall explained.

Youngs' work family is hoping to raise a couple thousand dollars more to help his family pay for the remaining gravesite and headstone costs.

The staff is selling personal pan pizzas for $2 out in front of the store and every penny goes to Youngs' family.

"This is our work family," said Marshall. "We have a work family and a home family, but any time there was anything going on personal at home, of course we were there for him, too."

His coworkers said Youngs was happy-go-lucky, loved OU, liked to travel and is missed every day.

They will be selling personal pan pizzas at the Domino's in Guthrie on Wednesday at 1314 S. Division Street.

The 27-year-old driver who crashed and caused Youngs' death has not been arrested or charged.

Oklahoma City police said the case is still under investigation.
