The Oklahoma City RedHawks scored five times in the ninth inning to break open a tie game and went on to take their series opener over the Sacramento River Cats, 7-2, Saturday night at Raley Field.

The game was tied 2-2 since the second inning. Ronny Torreyes led off the ninth with a double, and Jonathan Villar followed with a bunt single to put runners at the corners.

Joe Sclafani then drew a walk to load the bases. It was the only time Sclafani reached base in five plate appearances, extending his on-base streak to 32 consecutive games.

Jesus Guzman put the RedHawks in the lead with a sacrifice fly to deep right field. Later with the bases loaded and two outs, Andrew Aplin drew a walk to make it 4-2.

Matt Duffy came up next and sent a routine fly ball to left-center field, but Sacramento center fielder Shane Peterson missed the catch, allowing all three runners on base to score.

The RedHawks (66-63) have won three straight games and have taken four of the first five games on their current road trip. Omaha also won Saturday night, meaning the RedHawks remain two games

behind the first place Storm Chasers.

The RedHawks took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI groundout by Preston Tucker.

The River Cats (72-56) went in front during the bottom of the inning. With none on and two out, Kyle Blanks walked and Peterson followed with a two-run homer to center field.

The RedHawks tied the game in the second inning with a long ball of their own. Leading off the inning, Duffy blasted a home run onto the roof of the clubhouses in left field to make it 2-2.

The game was still tied in the fifth when the RedHawks had runners at first and second with two outs. Aplin shot a single to left field, and Blanks threw out Guzman at the plate to end the inning.

The seventh inning almost played out in identical fashion. Guzman was at second base with two outs when Tucker lined a single to right field. This time is was Nick Buss who threw a strike to the plate to get Guzman to end the inning.

After Peterson's home run, the River Cats had very little success at the plate. RedHawks starting pitcher Alex White retired the next 17 batters and did not have another man reach base until Peterson doubled with one out in the seventh.

With two runners on and two outs later in the seventh, White struck out Colin Walsh to keep the game tied. White pitched a season-high seven innings and recorded a season-high seven strikeouts in his third consecutive quality start.

Jason Stoffel kept the River Cats scoreless over the final two innings and picked up the win. Stoffel (4-4) and White combined to allow only three hits and had a total of six batters reach base all night.

Sacramento reliever Jeremy McBryde took the loss. Although McBryde (3-3) was charged with all five runs in the ninth inning, only two were earned.

The RedHawks will continue their series in Sacramento Sunday evening at 7:05 p.m.
