Students in Jenks are coming back to school with some new changes this year.
School renovations, new technology and new policies are just some of the things to which they'll be adjusting, and some of the changes could impact you even if you're just driving through a Jenks school zone.
Jenks campus police are allowed to hand out tickets on campus and nearby streets. Other than a fine, Tulsa police say getting a ticket in a Jenks school zone means you'll get an immediate court date.
The judge during that court appearance will decide how much to charge you for the speeding ticket. The Tulsa Police Department says they'll also be patrolling school zones and bus stops.
Also, students will be noticing two major district renovation projects.
The Trojan activity center, formerly, Frank Harold Gym on the high school campus has been renovated.
Also, the east elementary cafeteria renovated
All Jenks High School students will be given Chromebooks to use throughout the school year
Last year, the freshman class received them for a trial run to see how much they help in student learning.
School officials say the results were positive, so this year all high school students are getting them.
Teachers say these laptops will help students to be more creative and will increase their critical thinking skills. They will also give students better communication skills, they say.
Also, there's a change in the high school cell phone policy.
Students can now have them between classes and at lunch or they actually use them during class for instructional purpose only.
This means teachers will be allowed to decide if and when a student can use their phone in class.
