TULSA, Oklahoma -

North Tulsans are getting together to find a solution to the food desert problem. The only supermarket for miles in the north Tulsa area closed its doors at the end of July.

At a meeting this weekend at the Rudisill Library - people who live there discussed options for a community-owned grocery store. Organizers want the community to work together to raise money, find a location and open a store that will thrive.

"You know, when you put in some work to get something done then you're more likely to, you know, help make it produce. Yes, I think it should be successful," said organizer Joanna Durante.

Organizers say a community-owned store is just one of the solutions that could address the food desert issue.
