Boeing officials held a news conference Wednesday and formally announced that the company will relocate many of its defense services and support-related activities from Washington State to Oklahoma City.

Steve Goo, Site Director for Boeing Oklahoma City, said during the news conference that this move will result in approximately 900 jobs being placed in Oklahoma City.

“Our market is facing terrific, competitive pressures. It requires tough decisions like we've rarely seen in the past,” said Goo. “If Boeing Defense, Space & Security is going to differentiate themselves from our competitors, change is necessary. That often leads to positive outcomes. “

“In addition to the work our employees currently do in Oklahoma City, we are adding to our capabilities to further increase our engineering disciplines here in Oklahoma City,” Goo said.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin also spoke during the news conference, and stressed the importance of aerospace industry in Oklahoma.

“Aerospace is very important to the Oklahoma economy. It's one of our top five eco-systems, our top five wealth-generating industries in our state," said Fallin. "We have about 500 aerospace-related companies in Oklahoma, and it has about a $12 billion impact upon our state's economy. So we do appreciate companies like Boeing and other aerospace companies that are here, and the great contributions that they make in providing jobs and opportunities in generating revenue back into our economy as our economy continues to grow.”

“We appreciate the 1,800 employees who are already here in Oklahoma, and we certainly look forward to welcoming the new 900 employees who are relocating to our state,” Gov. Fallin said.

Major programs that will move include services and support work for Airborne Warning and Control Systems, Airborne Early Warning & Control and the B-2/Air Launch Cruise Missile, according to Boeing officials.
