Hill's Kick Return TD Helps Cowboys Run Past Iowa State

11 seconds.

That's all it took on Saturday for Oklahoma State to blow the doors off of Iowa State in a win in Stillwater.

It wasn't pretty early. One could even say it was disappointing. OSU was held scoreless for the first 25 minutes of the half – not good against a Cyclone team that entered allowing 33 points per game. The Cowboys alternated between punts and Daxx-Garman interceptions until they finally broke the seal.

Ben Grogan's 34-yard field goal got the Pokes on the board at the 2:57 mark of the first half, but things were just getting started. Grogan knocked another one through on OSU's next drive, and with only 47 seconds remaining, it looked like a 6-6 halftime tie was inevitable.

But then things got weird. On the ensuing kickoff, Iowa State's return team let the ball fall, and they all forgot to pick it up. The Cyclones' miscommunication allowed the Cowboys to run all the way down the field and fall on the ball at the ISU 11-yard line.

OSU drove quickly to the Cyclone two, but couldn't punch it in. With just seven seconds remaining and no timeouts, conventional wisdom said that the Pokes would try a quick pass to the end zone and if it didn't work, they'd kick a field goal. But Mike Gundy and the Cowboys elected to run it with Desmond Roland, and Roland was blown up and stuffed at the one-inch line as time ran out. OSU was set to head to the halftime with nothing, but upon replay review, the officials determined that the nose of the ball broke the plane and the Pokes were awarded the touchdown with no time remaining.

After trailing for most of the half, the Cowboys took a 13-6 lead into the locker room.

11 seconds into the second half, the game was over.

Tyreek Hill, perhaps the fastest player in college football, took the opening kickoff from his own three and sprinted 97 yards for a touchdown. Oklahoma State turned a 6-6 tie into a 20-6 lead in less time than it takes to flip the channel and find a closer game to watch.

In all seriousness, the route was on.

After ISU answered with a touchdown, Oklahoma State dropped 17 points on its next three drives. Garman found Jhajuan Seals for a 40-yard score, Grogan added another field goal, Roland plunged in again, and OSU found itself up 37-13 in no time.

Garman finished the day with 271 yards, the one touchdown and the two picks. Desmond Roland matched his performance from the UTSA game; 95 yards and a pair of scores.

Brandon Sheperd hauled in eight balls for 91 yards while Seales added 75 yards and the score.

Sam Richardson led the Cyclone offense with 200 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns along with 34 rushing yards. E.J. Bibbs had a big day for ISU, hauling in six balls for 69 yards and two touchdowns.

Oklahoma State improves to 4-1 and 2-0 in Big-12 play. The Cowboys will look to keep up the momentum at Kansas next Saturday at 3 p.m. The Jayhawks are 0-2 against Power-Five schools this season (Duke, Texas) and have been outscored 64-3.
