October is Teen Read Month at the Tulsa City-County Library, and there are several events planned for teens who love to read.

Teen Book Wars will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 8 at Helmerich Library, 5131 East 91st Street. It's described as an epic battle of the books as librarians defend some of their favorite books in four categories:

  • Realistic fiction
  • Graphic novel
  • Sci Fi/Fantasy
  • Mystery

The audience gets to vote on winners - and there's a chance to win door prizes. "Trash talk" is encouraged, according to Christina Walsh, teen services coordinator.

Walsh said Comics Plus gives teens access to thousands of different titles of various comics and graphic novels.

There will also be a best-selling author for teens at one of the libraries this month. Gayle Forman will appear at the Martin Regional Library, 2601 South Garnett, at 7 p.m. October 16.

Forman's popular works include "Just One Day," "Just One Year," and "Where She Went."
