A Green Country uncle is hoping to raise awareness about brain cancer. He is running this weekend in the Head for the Cure 5K at Mohawk Park.

Michael Slockers lost his nephew Kai to brain cancer seven months ago. Kai died just 15 days after his diagnosis.

Friends and family of Kai around the country have turned out to support Head for the Cure.

They've raised more than $23,000 at races in Dallas, Houston, Austin and Chicago.

"A very small percentage of cancer research money goes to, uh, one, pediatric cancer research and two, brain cancer overall; only four percent goes to that,” Slockers said.

If you'd like to run, walk or donate, you can learn more about Head for the Cure online.
