A 19-year-old charged with the shooting deaths of his newspaper publisher father, his mother and his sister in Duncan has asked for a court-appointed attorney.

Online court records show Alan Hruby requested a court-appointed attorney Friday and that attorney James Berry of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense system now represents him. Phone calls to Berry's office and OIDS were not answered Saturday.

Hruby faces three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 50-year-old John Hruby, 48-year-old Tinker Hruby and 17-year-old Katherine Hruby.

Prosecutors say Alan Hruby killed the three because he was in debt and his parents had cut him off financially and he believed he would be the only heir to the estate. He remains jailed without bond.

John Hruby was publisher and his wife worked at The Marlow Review. Katharine Hruby was a student at Duncan High school. Their memorial services will be on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Duncan.
