The City of Tulsa is connecting with residents in a whole new way.

The "Working in Neighborhoods" department will begin using the Nextdoor website to send information about the city directly to citizens. The social network is free and private.

Residents must verify their address to see and to talk online to people in their neighborhood.

Nearly 100 neighborhoods in Tulsa already use Nextdoor to share information about crime, lost pets and more.

"Basically what it does is allow neighbors to create their own social, private network for just their neighborhoods, so they can connect with neighbors about anything that matters to their community,” Nextdoor's Jen Burke said.

More city departments are expected to join Nextdoor in the coming weeks.
