Opening night of Comic Con was just the beginning for a weekend packed full of pop culture.

Hardcore fans of sci-fi, and cult classics are hitting the isles of the Wizard World Comic Con.

When Tulsans, like Chris and Theo Middlebrook, learned the group was making a stop here they got the whole family dressed up.

"I asked my wife if we could go to the one in California and then I found out there was one coming to Tulsa and I said we've got to go; get dressed up do the whole thing, get some autographs, it's like geek heaven," Chris said.

“It's awesome,” Theo said as he explained why he and his whole family dressed up, “because we like superheroes and its comic con."

Everyone from Wonder Woman to Clark Kent was seen at Friday's opener.

Sarah Hanson even put a few pieces of cardboard together to make a costume from Minecraft.

"In this costume most people know to avoid me," she said. "I'm so glad it came to Tulsa. I wouldn't of been able to go if it had been elsewhere, so it finally came to my hometown and I'm so glad for that."

"It's really exciting to see that Tulsa has now, sort of come into its own with the nerds and the geeks. That's no longer a pejorative term, Now you can come to an event like this and feel comfortable in your own skin," Simon Fleischmann said.

Fleischmann writes about comic cons on his website, whedonverse.net.

"But really it's pop-culture and it really sort of ignites the imagination, I think, where people are able to do more of that in Oklahoma," he said.

Saturday, Captain Kirk, also known was William Shatner, is beaming into town.

Even though the single day pass is sold out for Saturday, you can buy a VIP pass and get in whenever you want.
