A group of Oklahomans paid it forward on our cold Tuesday night. The group of friends and strangers hit the streets of downtown to find those pending the cold night without a home.

There were hugs, tears and a lot of thank yous as the group, Tulsa Pay It Forward, raised more than $500 to help Tulsa's homeless.

The group does a little something once a month and Tuesday night they handed over as much as they could to help those in need.

“A little more than $300 and we will have other people to donate a few more,” said volunteer Steve Clem.

A few more is an understatement. Word spread through social media and it all came together in under 24 hours.

Armed with hundreds in donations, members of Tulsa Pay It Forward hit the store and stocked up on a little bit of everything.

Shopping bags were full of hoodies, gloves, long underwear and more; the final total came to $511.

Well, $521, after Makayla - a young girl who just happened to be in the parking lot and wanted to help – donated another $10.

While they were out on the streets, the group met Time, a 22-year-old who has been homeless for the last year.

He was overwhelmed at first and simply said he could use a blanket, but he then gave in to some other things like a hoodie and some crackers.

"You guys were sent by God. You are angels. I love every single one of you," Tim said.

He couldn't leave without asking for hugs from the group of Oklahomans that just want to do good things for others.

"I always feel wonderful after these activities and it makes me want to continue living my life that way,” said Clem.

The items that weren't donated to people out in the cold will be given to places like the Salvation Army and John 3:16.
