No Special Election For Oklahoma Congressional Race

There will be no special election in an Oklahoma congressional race.

The state has certified Markwayne Mullin's landslide victory even though his Democratic challenger Earl Everett died the week of the election.

In a statement, Oklahoma State Election Board Secretary, Paul Ziriax said:

“The Oklahoma State Election Board followed the advice of its counsel at the Attorney General's office. Per that advice, the Board certified the results of the U.S. House District 2 race Wednesday along with the other elections conducted Nov. 4.”

Mullin also released a statement regarding the decision:

“We were pleased about the decision of the state Election Board and the Oklahoma Attorney General that no new election is necessary in the Second District. The people of the Second District re-elected me because they know I stand for conservative Oklahoma values, for our jobs and for our families. It is my privilege to be able to continue representing them in Congress.”
