BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma -

A dog is recovering after being shot through his owner's front door.

Broken Arrow police said a man showed up at a house, put his hand over the peephole, knocked on the door, and when the homeowner wouldn't open up, he fired.

The bullet shot through the Broken Arrow home's front door, injuring a dog and shattering the feeling of safety in the Silvertree neighborhood subdivision.

"Is he going to come back again? Your biggest fear is am I going to be safe," one neighbor asked.

According to neighbors, there's some suspicious activity at the home where the shooting happened.

"This is not the first time the cops have been over there," said the neighbor.

Broken Arrow police said the shot was fired around 8:30 Wednesday morning when a man came to the home in the 3800 block of South Sycamore Avenue, covered the peephole and knocked.

The homeowner didn't open the door, and that's when the man shot and hit the dog, named Debo.

Corporal Leon Calhoun with Broken Arrow Police said it could've ended much worse.

"You don't know what would've happened once this person did get into the house," he said.

The homeowner got a look at the shooter and said it was a man in his mid-40s wearing a green jacket and black hat.

Police are now looking at whether the homeowner is being targeted.

"Trying to determine why this person would come to this house and the result would be him firing through the door," Calhoun said.

"What if they get the wrong house the next time? Or what if it was intentional," the neighbor said.

The dog is expected to make a full recovery.

Calhoun said if there's someone suspicious at your door, don't open it. He said to take a step back, call the police and they will come check it out.
