Tuesday, CoSIDA announced that ORU's junior soccer player Kaily Cox was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team.

The Tulsa native is the first women's soccer player from Oral Roberts to receive the honor. Cox was previously named by CoSIDA to the Academic All-District First Team earlier this year.

Cox has a 4.0 GPA, and is majoring in Biology. She is one of six players on the three All-American teams to have the phenomenal cumulative average. She was the only player from all Division I programs in Oklahoma to be chosen as an All-American.

Last year she received notoriety for being Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, All-Southland Conference First Team, and Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

This year the defensive threat netted one goal against SMU that got ORU their first win against the school in program history. She also contributed to the Golden Eagles' scoreless draw against Baylor.

Prior to ORU Cox played in five matches at DePaul. There she scored a goal on two shots. She graduated from Jenks High School in 2012. There she led her high school squad to a state championship in 2009, and she received Wendy's High School Heisman honors, as well as All-State and All-District.

Cox is the fifth Academic All-American from ORU. Sheina Fernandes was third team for the school's volleyball team back in 2012. Baseball players Bob Volk and Buddy Slemp, and swimmer David Brown also received the honors in the late 1970s and 80s.
