Monday Morning Update

Tracking Light Freezing Drizzle OR Rain

Posted: Updated:
Much colder air will remain across the state and eastern OK today with temperatures remaining in the lower 30s for most of the day.  A period of very light drizzle or light showers will be possible for a few hours across extreme eastern OK and northwestern Arkansas.  Temps this morning will be near or below freezing creating a chance for some freezing drizzle or very light freezing rain across part of eastern OK and northwestern Arkansas.   The chance in the Tulsa metro is  low, but will remain possible for a few hours this morning.   Any drizzle or light shower activity could freeze on contact with elevated surfaces creating slick driving conditions in a few spots.   A winter weather advisory remains in effect for extreme eastern OK from Tahlequah eastward into northwestern Arkansas until 4pm today.  The Tulsa metro and surrounding counties are currently not included in any winter weather advisory.

The shallow arctic air mass will remain across eastern OK today and tonight before moderating quickly Tuesday into Wednesday.  This means Tuesday morning lows will start in the upper teens and lower 20s, but move into the mid and upper 40s as winds back from the southeast by Tuesday afternoon.    Wednesday morning temps will start in the upper 30s and end in the mid 50s.

The upper air flow will remain basically zonal ( west to east) for the next 5 to 7 days.  Several waves will move from the western U.S. across the southern and central plains allowing for periodic shower chances beginning Wednesday and Thursday.   A surface front may at times drop southward across the northern third of state but no significant cooling is expected with this frontal passage for late this week.   The stronger upper level wave will approach the state this weekend with increasing rain chances Friday, and then again Sunday evening.   The data is inconsistent regarding the temps for the weekend, with the EURO colder and the GFS warmer.   We've offered a " blend" at this point.

Temperatures Friday into the weekend will begin in the 40s for lows and end in the lower to mid 50s for highs.

Thanks for reading the Monday Morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a great day!
