TULSA, Oklahoma -

Tuesday is 'Giving Tuesday,' a national movement designed to encourage folks to give their time, money and energy to other people.

The Mental Health Association of Oklahoma is highlighting its BetterBox Project to help the homeless. Tuesday through Friday, the association is collecting things like coats and gloves to fill up backpacks for the homeless. They go to people like Shane Touchet who was homeless when he moved to Tulsa from state of Louisiana eight years ago.

Touchet has been on the receiving end of these backpacks, and says even things like flashlights, are a huge help.

"And you don't know who's walking in your camp. So a flashlight's real good, that way if you hear something, spotlight. You'll find out who's in there for safety," said Shane Touchet.

You can drop off the items at the Mental Health Association's main office at 21st and Boulder. To find out more visit their website.
